History

Wa Co-operative Credit Union (WACCU) is a financial institution registered under the Ghana Co-operative Societies Degree 252 of 1968. The Union was formed in September 1960 and has been operating in the Wa municipality for over fifty years now. It currently has five (5) branch offices which operate as semi-autonomous locations. WACCU currently has a total membership of about 10,000 members and a staff strength of 43.

A vibrant and sustainable Credit Union which provides excellent and quality services to a well-informed membership in an enhanced and congenial environment.

Mission

The Wa Community Co-operative Credit Union (WACCU) exists to render financial and non-financial services to its members within the Wa Municipality and other neighbouring communities with the aim of promoting economic and social activities that will alleviate poverty among its members.

Objectives

WACCU’s key objectives are as follows

  • To promote thrift among members including the youth by providing means of Savings.
  • To provide credit to members for provident and productive purposes at fair and competitive interest rates.
  • To extend Credit Union operations to new communities.
  • To adopt modern operational technologies relevant for services to members.
  • To improve officers’ capacity through training.
  • To search for and to introduce other new products that would benefit our members.

Management

WACCU is managed by a Senior Management Team headed by the Supervising Manager who reports to the Board. The Senior Management team is made up of the Supervising Manager, Finance & Administration Manager, Operations Manager, Recovery Manager, ICT Manager and the Assistant Operations Manager -Loans. They bring on board a good mix of experience in Management, Microfinance, Accountancy and Finance. Below is a brief profile of the management team members.
